Elon Musk Plans to Give One SpaceX Share to Every Child in America

Elon Musk is once again making headlines with an unconventional proposal: the entrepreneur says he plans to give one of his SpaceX shares to every child in the United States in 2027.

Musk announced the plan on X, saying that next year he will give one of his SpaceX shares to “every kid in America” and that this will be “the first of many” such giveaways.

A multi-billion-dollar giveaway

The exact details of the plan have not yet been announced, but the potential scale of the donation is enormous.

There are currently more than 70 million children under the age of 18 in the United States. Based on a SpaceX share price of roughly $146, giving one share to every child could represent more than $10 billion in stock.

Musk has not yet specified the age requirements or explained exactly how the shares would be distributed.

Why SpaceX?

The announcement comes at an interesting moment for SpaceX. The company is best known for its rockets and space exploration projects, but it has also been expanding into technologies connected to artificial intelligence.

Musk's announcement came just hours after Anthropic revealed plans to dedicate a portion of its shares to a new public benefit fund. Musk responded by suggesting that the shares should be given directly to the public. He later said that this is what he plans to do with his own SpaceX shares.

The proposal also comes as the U.S. develops initiatives designed to create investment accounts for children and allow wealthy individuals to contribute assets such as stocks.

A proposal with plenty of unanswered questions

While the announcement has attracted significant attention, many details remain unclear.

It is not yet known how eligible children would be identified, how the shares would be transferred, or under what conditions they could eventually be sold. Musk has also not announced exactly when the distribution would begin in 2027.

What is clear is the potential scale of the initiative: if carried out, millions of American children could become shareholders in one of the world's most prominent space and technology companies.

Fun fact about Elon Musk

Before becoming one of the world's best-known technology entrepreneurs, Musk put a significant portion of his personal fortune into his ambitious projects. After selling PayPal, he used much of his wealth to fund companies including SpaceX and Tesla, at a time when several of his ventures were facing serious financial challenges.

SpaceX's early years were particularly difficult. The company's first three Falcon 1 launches failed. Its fourth launch in 2008 finally reached orbit, helping keep the company alive and marking a major turning point in SpaceX's history.

SpaceX's story is a reminder that many of today's biggest technology successes began as risky bets long before they became household names.
